About Michael Harrison
Overlooking the quiet shores of Montara Bay, our home is a peaceful refuge. Surrounded by whispering palm trees, I find joy in painting, photographing, designing, and playing with color and form.
Transforming healing silence into art, each stroke celebrates rest, space, simplicity, and wonder. Inspired by my practice of presence, bodywork, and wonder, I slowly learn to stop, look, and listen.
Unlearning becomes valuable as I notice and unattach from distractions. I find beauty in the ordinary natural world, evident in everything perceived. In silence, noticing and breathing, I come alive. Nature inspires art-making.
At an early age in Boston 1958, I was given the idea I was an artist. My artwork brought me lots of positive attention and some fame. The story was that I have special talent for creating great art and that my painting went to the Brussels World's Fair. This allowed for a simple pleasure in observing nature and a joy when painting and making artwork ever since.
I create mostly from a beginner’s mind.
I’m slowly learning to Stop, Look and Notice what’s in front of me more often.
PAUSING to observe clouds, trees, cats. Simply pausing, stopping for beauty. Allowing it to affect me. Breathing deeply. Slowly.
Aging has a wealth of benefits. - Slowing down to the pace of life!

Today at amost 80, I am happily making art living in the San Francisco / East Bay/ San Pablo, California area.
I work with acrylics, graphite pencil, digital photography, mixed media, collage; - often using recycled and found materials to evoke beauty, calm and space.
Each piece has the ability to uplift and invite spaciousness, serenity and quiet.
We are all art makers. Our life each moment is our art.
Simplicity, ease, flow and harmony happen while creating and viewing this art.
- I function best in an atmosphere of silence, stillness and open space. My carport/ studio and friendship with other artists is my creative refuge.
- I have been making art since 1956 when I won 1st prize in a childhood art contest of 17,000 entries. This conditioned and encouraged my curiosity and belief that I have a talent for seeing and creating beauty.
- My vision is to return to the primal joy of making art. Color and beauty soothes and heals my heart mind.
